Sony wants to charge money for used games like EA does.

I seriously dislike the new online pass system that EA is beginning to use for all it’s games. And I’m starting to hate the way it’s catching on with other publishers. Like Sony.

Not only does Sony approve of third-party publishers like Electronic Arts and THQ charging used games buyers to play their games online, it also appears Sony is planning an “online pass” program of their own. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Andrew House, president of Sony Europe, says Sony is “actively” investing in a similar solution for their first party titles.

“On the principle of making online portions of the game available or unlocked from the disc-based release for a fee, we’re broadly supportive of that,” House said in the interview. “And we’re exploring actively the same option for our own content.”

I liked it better when we got something extra for purchasing the game new. Like when Gears of War 2 came out and they gave us those free classic maps. Is it really that difficult to reward the people who buy the game new instead of totally screwing over the guys who buy games used?
